The Zoe Tynan Tournament honours the memory of Zoe, a young woman who tragically died by suicide in 2016 at the age of 18.
The event aims to raise awareness of emotional well-being, communication, and suicide prevention. It also raises funds for two deserving charities: If U Care Share Foundation (IUCSF) and Love, Jasmine.
This year, the tournament takes place on May 18th at Jericho Lane Football Hub. It's a community day filled with activities alongside the main football tournament. Stalls offering games, face painting, cakes, and a raffle create a festive atmosphere. Charities benefitting from the event have a strong presence, raising awareness and supporting attendees. Last year, over a thousand people, including many families with young children, participated, raising a staggering £23,353 through raffle ticket sales and other contributions.
If U Care Share Foundation is a suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention charity. They provide ongoing support to families affected by suicide, those struggling with mental health, and those experiencing suicidal thoughts. They also deliver workshops in schools and football clubs, promoting mental wellbeing and encouraging people to seek help when needed.
This year, the organizers chose to also support Love, Jasmine, following the recent deaths of two young boys who attended the school of one of the organizers. Love, Jasmine provides holistic support to families who have lost a child. This includes counseling, support groups, practical guidance, and complimentary self-care therapies like yoga and meditation.
Sian, founder of Obvs Skincare has chosen to support this cause because she was bullied at school for being the only girl on the football team. Her experience resonates with the tournament's message of promoting emotional well-being and creating a safe space for young people to be themselves. By supporting the Zoe Tynan Tournament, Sian hopes to help create a more inclusive environment where everyone feels comfortable participating in sports and expressing themselves freely.
